Helping Yourself With Back Pain

As promised, today I will be sharing with you Why Your Back Pain cannot be treated where you are feeling your pain.

To Help yourself  to treat your own Back, you first have to know Where to start and what Causes it.

The normal approach to Back pain is to go directly onto the painful area in the back and   manipulate or adjust or mobilize your spine Where you are feeling the pain.

Now this approach can help to decrease the Pain and the inflammation for a short time only.

What You as a Smart consumer of health services need to be asking is Why! And wait for the explanation from the treating therapist. See if it makes sense, also ask them “ what has caused my Back to become painful” Or the Disc to be herniated. This is a very interesting exercise.

If they cannot answer you to your satisfaction then I would suggest that you do not  spend any more of your health dollars with them.

The accepted and taught  approach used by Physiotherapists and Chiropractors is akin to having a car with tyres that keep prematurely wearing and you keep changing the tyres and then in a few months they are worn again.

This in no way to treat your car let alone your Back.

What of course needs to happen is you need to get the alignment checked on your car.

In you and I the alignment becomes distorted due to the Huge forces put upon the spine via the Postural muscles.

The Soaz muscles are the Huge postural muscles that attach directly onto your spine, and are capable of exerting a total of 100kg of force onto the spine on a daily basis. This force can result in pressure onto the discs, shearing of the vertebra and crumpling the spine.

Low Back Pain is a result of these forces acting on the spine over time.

In the next installment I will be talking about the various syndromes and presentations that are typical of people who suffer with Low Back Pain. However……

I will explain to you WHY these presentations come about and How You can treat your Own Back.

Truth In Treatment.

Back Pain Secrets Revealed Part 1

As a Physiotherapist of over twenty years , I have seen  many presentations of lower back pain.

I have seen this present as pain in the bottom part of the spine , pain in the Sacroiliac area, pain in the outer buttocks ,pain in the hip, pain into the leg and pain into the groin hip and pelvis.l

So, you might think that this varied and diverse presentation of symptoms are not related. Now sometimes this can be the case. On the surface.

Because pain in the lower back is a symptom itself.

This lower back area is where the nerves from your spine are placed, so you will experience your back pain in this area of your body  But –  it is not where the cause of your back pain is.

You may think, I don’t really care, I just want my  pain to be gone.

As a physiotherapist I use to treat this way and I did get the pain to be gone. But, it would  soon return . I no longer approach back pain in that way any longer.

Over the next few installments, I will be revealing to you Why your Back pain cannot be just treated Where you experience your pain (your symptom) and I want you to understand that You can treat your own back.

No, I am not talking about some core exercises or pilates classes. I am going to help you to  be able to treat your own back in your own home.

Are You Embarrassed When You Wet Your Pants

Is Incontinence Holding You Back ?

The  Soaz   Back Pain  and Incontinence.

Stress Incontinence is a condition that can make it hard to  do the things in your daily life that would otherwise not be a problem.

Things like running on the Treadmill or Picking up the shopping or your children and particularly embarrassing when you are with a group of friends and cant join in on those activities that cause you to “dribble”

Stress Incontinence is a condition that affects many women after childbirth. The Pelvic ‘sling’ which has become stretched and weak no longer  has the same ability to support the bladder and bowel as it did prior to giving birth.

So when you lift things like shopping bags this sling has lost its elasticity or ability to respond to this increase in pressure.

As a Physiotherapist we are trained to teach Pelvic Floor Exercises to rehabilitate these muscles and avoid ongoing incontinence.

The other muscle group within the Pelvic cavity that effects the Pelvic Sling  is the Soaz muscles.

Huge  Forces are produced by these muscles.  Approximately 100Kg of force  is exerted by these muscles  every day in certain postures, like sitting and crouching on the toiled and especially when  we lift things.

The Soaz and the Cyclist

As the Soaz muscle attaches directly to the Lumbar Spine  goes through the groin and Attaches to the top part of the leg , this is the one muscle that is constantly under pressure from Cyclists.

Cyclists  position on a bike is  in a forward crouched position creating this Hugely Powerful muscle to Crumple  and Compress the spine, discs and nerves just like an accordion.

Many cyclists have problem Groins, and Backs due to this  repetitive posture on their bikes which is   required in their sport.

The good news is that at Posturepro  Clinic in Greenacres South Australia, the home of Soaztherapy, we are able to treat and educate on this muscle.

This is not a muscle that responds to aggressive trigger pointing and stretching before it is ready.

At Posturepro physiotherapy clinic  Our approach has been honed and refined  over 15 years , to be able to treat the Soaz muscle  to get the optimal results.

This should be a painless experience and only when the  Soaz muscle is responsive can stretching begin.
