Well, how did you go with the exercise from last time. Today I will progress what we did last time, but only do this if your pain has started to decrease.

Back pain is an indication that something is wrong, not on the back where you feel the pain but deep inside on the spine where the nerves that go into the back originate from. So by just working on the back is like trying to scratch an itch with gloves on.

The next exercise is to progress from the small ball to the size of a tennis ball. Repeat the same exercise from last time with the tennis ball.

till next time.

Hi everyone.

Today I want to fulfill my promise to you to teach you how you can get relief from your back and buttock and even leg pain. This is a method I teach my own clients just to get them some relief at home, while they go through the Soaztherapy programme.

Now, before I tell you about this home exercise, I want to make it very clear that in the majority of back pain sufferers this works. If you find that you dont get relief then you may fall into that category who have what we call an irritable or an unstable back. These people are not the ones who would want to try and get down on a floor because you will exaccerbate your back merely by trying to get into the position for performing the exercise and then by attempting to get back up. So, its not the exercise but your inability to do those movements without making your back worse.

For the people who fall into this irritable category, I would start by just laying on your bed on the width end of a double bed. Lay side on with one small pillow under your head. Bend your bottom leg to keep you stable. with the top leg do the following.

Firstly before you lift the top leg brace your bottom. Continue to brace your bottom until the exercise is complete. With your top leg gently take it out in front, then behind if you are able.Do not go past pain just to pain. So you need to be feeling what is happening at all stages. Now bring your top leg back in line with your body then raise it towards the ceiling. Do not let your body move at all during this only your legs. All of these movements are done with a slow purposeful pace. Do not hurry. Listen to your body. Repeat this sequence 10 times on each side. Do this exercise 3 times per day until your spine starts to stabilise. Only then can you start doing this more progressed exercise below.

Get a golf ball or a similar sized ball that is quite firm. Place the golf ball into a thick woollen sock and tie a knot into the sock near the ball so the ball doesnt fall out during this exercise.

Lay onto a carpeted area on the floor near a lounge or similar piece of furniture to help you to get back up without placing too much strain onto your back.

now laying on your stomach place the golf ball about two inches upward from your groin into the pelvis area. when this is firmly in place do the following.

With both hands placed underneath your shoulders, gently but firmly push up so as to extend your arms and extend the top half of your body. do not try and lift your pelvis or back. The pelvis stays firmly on the floor. You will now hold that position for about 10 seconds or less if you are not able to hold for that long. You will then lower yourself down to where you started Slowly. The slower the better. Repeat this 10 times doing exactly the same movement all the way through. Repeat the exercise three times per day. When you start to feel about fifty percent better, you can decrease the exercise to twice per day.

In my next blog I will tell you how to progress this exercise to the next level.

To truth in treatment.

Hello, I am sorry I have not been able to get back to you until now. I have been working very hard on trying to get my Soaz information ‘out there’ and still working at training other therapists. So I have not had a lot of time to get the next installment up onto my blog. This may happen from time to time now as Soaz rolls out. So just in case I cannot get a weekly post up I would like to let you know that I have not forgotten you and that I will get to it as I am able. Please do in the meantime leave any comments you may have for me.

This week I want to relay one of my earliest cases when I was working with work injury patients almost 20 years ago. A middle aged meat worker came in being helped by the company nurse with a low back injury that had happened that morning. He could not straighten up lest he caused the low back pain to increase to the point of almost bringing him to his knees.

I and the other physio who I worked with at the time had to help him up onto the treatment table where I proceeded to work onto his Back ( where he was feeling his pain).

After about ten minutes of this he was still feeling just as bad as he was when he came in. I thought well he cant be any worse off if I try this new technique that I had (Soaz) so I proceeded to treat his Soaz.

After the first three minutes he was able to straighten out his leg and his back on the treatment table. He then was able to get himself down from the table and stood without any pain.

The amazing thing when I look back at this incident is that he probably didnt realise what had just happened. I mean he didnt have any expectation about what techniques I would use. So he probably expected to walk out straight and pain free. His comment as he walked out of the room was: thats better I better get back to work now.

This is quite an amazing result for the presentation that he came in with.

Acute irritable conditions like he presented with constant pain dont have that result. I did not even know that then as I was quite green and had only been out about two years and had only worked in this acute environment for a short time.

I know now that this is quite amazing and I also know WHY it happened and HOW it happened

If you are getting your sypmtoms treated for your Back pain and you would like to speed up your Healing Time and spend less time at your Health Therapist, then call Posturepro and have a Free Soaz Check . Or book a Private Consultation with Me.

As promised to you from my last installment this week I have decided to share with you some of the amazing results that I have achieved in the treatment of ‘Back Pain’.

For many years treating as a Physiotherapist I had not seen these amazing results until I started to treat Back Pain in a totally different way to what I had been trained to do.

One of the ‘Back Pain’ clients I saw was a nineteen year old girl who had been referred to me by her mother ( who was a physiotherapist) for mid to low back pain. One of the first things I noticed when this girl walked into my room was that her blouse was loose and falling off her shoulder and that she seemed to be tilted ( listed) to one side.

This is the presentation of a Scoliosis. Now because of her age I was expecting to be told that she had a structural scoliosis. A structural scoliosis is one that is not expected to change due to its inability to straighten out when the person bends forward. This was indeed the case.

I observed this girls spine on getting her to bend forward and noted that the curve did not change. I was not hopeful at all that I could help her.

On my examination I felt her Soaz muscles and found they were ‘wooden’ as opposed to soft and pliable.

I did two releases only and to my amazement on the third visit with the instructions I had given her of what to do at home she stood straight and there was no curvature of her spine.

This same girl had also been given a substantial heel raise to put into her shoe on the short leg by her podiatrist. After the Soaz muscle released it allowed her leg to lengthen and she could not wear the heel raise because her legs were now even.

This case was exceptional. However, I consistently see legs ‘lengthen’ after the techniques we use. Of course this is only one case and I dont tell you this to brag but to offer an alternate perspective on how some of the conditions that the Soaz is influencing be looked at in a new light.

Until next time. Julie

Sciatica

Causes of Sciatica can be given as a compression onto the Sciatic nerve resulting in the pain message travelling down the nerve into the leg. Treatment for this debilitating condition varies depending on what health practitioner you see.

The various explanations for Why you have Sciatica are sometimes more confusing than helpful.

Some of these explanations include the following.

Degenerative Disc Disease – The discs in your spine age just as you do, and like the rest of our body are subject to wear and tear.

Piriformis Syndrome – This is the muscle that lies in the buttock area and sits directly over the Sciatic nerve as it exits the spine.

Spondylolisthesisa a movement of one vertebra on the other causing a shift and a compression at that level

A stress fracture in the fifth lumbar vertebra, known as L5 can cause disc movement and hence sciatica symptoms.

Lumbar spinal stenosis – Different roots of your sciatic nerve pass through passageways in your spine. One of these passageways can become smaller, resulting in pinching, irritation or putting pressure on your sciatic nerve.

Lumbar herniated disc – The discs in your spine are like shock absorbers, allowing your back to bend and swivel. Ageing can weaken or damage these discs and a disc can bulge out or even split, pinching or putting pressure on your sciatic nerve. This is one of the most common causes of sciatica pain.

Trauma – Accidents that causes sudden compression of the sciatic nerve can produce sciatica pain, for example, breaking a bone that results in pressure on the sciatica nerve.

Tumors – May irritate or compress the sciatic nerve and produce sciatica; however, this is rarely attributed as one of the causes of sciatica pain.

Pregnancy – Due to carrying a baby there is extra strain on your spine, which can cause sciatica pain.

The various diagnosis above fail to address the question of How the Discs and Joints become compressed and worn.

The most powerful Force that can create this degeneration is the one structure that is not being addresssed and treated.

This powerful force acts Directly over the spine to cause the Discs to bulge and rupture and the spine to crumple.

This powerful Force is the Missing Link In all Back pain Treatment. Only by addressing this can the direct force be reversed.

Within the next installment I will be bringing you some of the most amazing case studies of people I have treated with this missing link.

To Truth in Treatment.

As promised, today I will be sharing with you Why Your Back Pain cannot be treated where you are feeling your pain.

To Help yourself to treat your own Back, you first have to know Where to start and what Causes it.

The normal approach to Back pain is to go directly onto the painful area in the back and manipulate or adjust or mobilize your spine Where you are feeling the pain.

Now this approach can help to decrease the Pain and the inflammation for a short time only.

What You as a Smart consumer of health services need to be asking is Why! And wait for the explanation from the treating therapist. See if it makes sense, also ask them “ what has caused my Back to become painful” Or the Disc to be herniated. This is a very interesting exercise.

If they cannot answer you to your satisfaction then I would suggest that you do not spend any more of your health dollars with them.

The accepted and taught approach used by Physiotherapists and Chiropractors is akin to having a car with tyres that keep prematurely wearing and you keep changing the tyres and then in a few months they are worn again.

This in no way to treat your car let alone your Back.

What of course needs to happen is you need to get the alignment checked on your car.

In you and I the alignment becomes distorted due to the Huge forces put upon the spine via the Postural muscles.

The Soaz muscles are the Huge postural muscles that attach directly onto your spine, and are capable of exerting a total of 100kg of force onto the spine on a daily basis. This force can result in pressure onto the discs, shearing of the vertebra and crumpling the spine.

Low Back Pain is a result of these forces acting on the spine over time.

In the next installment I will be talking about the various syndromes and presentations that are typical of people who suffer with Low Back Pain. However……

I will explain to you WHY these presentations come about and How You can treat your Own Back.

Truth In Treatment.

So, you might think that this varied and diverse presentation of symptoms are not related. Now sometimes this can be the case. On the surface.

Because pain in the lower back is a symptom itself.

This lower back area is where the nerves from your spine are placed, so you will experience your back pain in this area of your body But - it is not where the cause of your back pain is.

You may think, I don’t really care, I just want my pain to be gone.

As a physiotherapist I use to treat this way and I did get the pain to be gone. But, it would soon return . I no longer approach back pain in that way any longer.

Over the next few installments, I will be revealing to you Why your Back pain cannot be just treated Where you experience your pain (your symptom) and I want you to understand that You can treat your own back.

This is the muscle that has the ability to crumple the spine and shear the discs. Yet this muscle is never considered in the retraining of the ‘sling’ muscle.

One of the effects of a Soaz muscle that is short and tight ( which is the case in many people) is its ability to push and distort the Bladder and Bowel within the Pelvis.

See the Case Study on its effect in my Case Studies section

Click here to see the case studies section about a 38 year old woman

This woman had such tight Soaz muscles that they Clamped her Large intestine not allowing any food to pass through her gut. This is how powerful the Soaz muscles are.

One of the benefits of Treating the Soaz muscles and that I hear back from my Female clients is that after treating the Soaz muscles for their Back pain, they also have experienced a lessening of their incontinence symptoms. This is without any surgery or Internal Treatment.

At Posturepro we can Diagnose and Treat your Soaz muscles so that your Pelvis will be Balanced and strong again. Call Posturepro Clinic in Greenacres South Australia now.

Cyclists position on a bike is in a forward crouched position creating this Hugely Powerful muscle to Crumple and Compress the spine, discs and nerves just like an accordion.

Many cyclists have problem Groins, and Backs due to this repetitive posture on their bikes which is required in their sport.

The good news is that at Posturepro Clinic in Greenacres South Australia, the home of Soaztherapy, we are able to treat and educate on this muscle.

This is not a muscle that responds to aggressive trigger pointing and stretching before it is ready.
